2023

ADCO’s Year in Review: A Year of Resilience, Innovation, and Impact

As we bid farewell to the year 2023, we invite you to join Team ADCO in reflecting on our annual journey. Let’s revisit the significant moments that highlighted our steadfast dedication to excellence.

From prioritising health and safety to celebrating diversity and sustainability, join us in revisiting the highlights that shaped our year.

Mitigating Risks: A Commitment to Safety

At ADCO, what you see is what you get—no smoke and mirrors here! We have demonstrated award-winning dedicationand construction expertise as we constantly strive for open communication, clear processes, and transparent project management.

In 2023 we only improved our transparency, from clear project timelines to budget breakdowns, we kept you in the loop every step of the way. We remained vigilant, meticulously considering the hazards and potential risks associated with weather conditions and site locations to ensure the well-being of everyone involved in our projects. Our proactive approach involved scheduling activities in anticipation of changing weather conditions and regularly reviewing and adjusting our plans.

The construction industry is a stressful industry – an industry within which a culture of acknowledging and dealing with the mental and physical health risks to employees has been traditionally absent. Team ADCO is dedicated to being at the forefront of change in the industry’s attitude towards mental and physical safety of employees.

In the autumn of 2023, ADCO was front and centre working on both mental and physical safety.

Fostering a Supportive Work Environment for Mental Health in Construction

So in November 2023, we actively participated in Construction Safety Month, focusing on controlling critical risks, taking the ADCO pledge to maximise health and safety, reinforcing the identification and elimination of hazards.

On World Mental Health Day, we took on the construction industry stigma around mental health, emphasising the importance of prioritising health and wellbeing.

The success of our initiatives is evident with zero safe man-hours lost to incidents or accidents on ADCO projects.

Creating an Inclusive Culture at ADCO

ADCO is a vibrant, all-inclusive community where diversity is not just celebrated; it’s our secret to success! In 2023, we actively fostered an all-inclusive environment, celebrating International Women’s Day by highlighting the achievements of our female employees. Mairead Luttrell, the head of our pharmaceutical division, shared valuable perspectives on navigating a career at the forefront of the construction industry while maintaining a balance with family life.

Her experiences and achievements underscore how the construction sector is not confined to its stereotypes; rather, it is a dynamic and inclusive environment where talents, regardless of gender, thrive.

Togetherness, Unity, and Collaboration

In the thrill-filled month of May 2023, we took fundraising to new heights – literally! ADCO exemplified the values of togetherness, unity, and collaboration by organising a skydiving fundraiser with six team members. The funds raised supported Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland, providing accommodation and support for families with children undergoing medical treatment. This initiative showcased our dedication to making a positive impact in our community.

Taking a Stand for the Environment

Last year, we continued to build on our sustainable legacy. Recognising the undeniable link between public health and the environment, we took a bold stand for environmental sustainability.

Our commitment to sustainable practices went beyond mere rhetoric. In the pharmaceutical sector, we showcased the transformative capability of environmentally sustainable practices for your pharmaceutical projects.

Focusing on Refurbishing for Decarbonisation

decarbonisation

Furthering ADCO’s journey of environmental stewardship in 2023, we had a standout project that stood for our commitment to our planet…the refurbishment of The Irish Aviation Authority, The Times Building, nestled on Dublin’s iconic D’Olier Street.

This initiative signifies our dedication to the process of decarbonisation, helping to address the construction sector’s substantial 37% contribution to global carbon emissions.

ADCO is taking proactive steps, by refurbishing existing structures, to promote decarbonisation. This project stands as a testament to our dedication to a greener, more environmentally conscious future.

Giving back at Christmas

As the curtains closed in 2023, ADCO Contracting embraced the spirit of giving and brought joy to those who needed it the most. Our team visited Barretstown, Ronald McDonald House Ireland, and Make-A-Wish Ireland, to donate presents for the children. These organisations exert continuous efforts to bring moments of joy to children confronting health challenges, and we were privileged to contribute to their admirable causes.
