Contracts Manager

Meet Mairead Luttrell, a woman challenging the narrative in pharmaceutical construction as a contracts manager.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is the day we celebrate women in all their diversities. Embracing our differences in race, ethnicity, faith, disability, and everything in between. We loudly and proudly honour and recognise those who have come before us to pave the way, those who stand beside us on our path and those who will follow in our footsteps.

The pharmaceutical construction industry has traditionally been male-dominated, but Mairead Luttrell is proving that gender is not a barrier to success in this field. As a woman who has risen through the ranks in the pharmaceutical construction sector, Mairead is a shining example of the important role women are playing in this industry.

Meet Mairead Luttrell: Contracts Manager Extraordinaire

Today we’re shining the spotlight on one of ADCO’s vital team members: Mairead Luttrell. Mairead is a Contracts Manager at ADCO and heads up our pharmaceutical division. She is a mother, a wife, a leader, and a camogie player with Ballyboden. Each of these aspects of Mairead’s life bring particular strengths to her role and her team.

Having initially started out in the Fit-Out division, Mairead soon realised she preferred the variety and challenge involved in the pharmaceutical sector and particularly in controlled environments. From new clean room setup to shutdowns and upgrades, from cold store installations to laboratory and production warehouse upgrades, no two projects or even two days are the same. Mairead credits her strong track record in successful project delivery to her capacity for being flexible, open and transparent.

Mairead sees her co-workers, her subcontractors and her clients as her teammates and it’s the budget and programme they are all playing together to beat. “Leave everything on the field” is a mantra she’s taken from pitch to projects. Successfully delivering and leaving a quality project behind is the ultimate win for everyone involved. This energetic and collaborative approach means that problems are resolved, and solutions are proffered in a helpful, cooperative environment.

A Champion for Feedback and Diversity

Every pharmaceutical project is different, from protocols and procedures to equipment and production cycles. Mairead says it all comes down to feedback. Human to human you need to listen to the input from everyone around you. From toolbox talks to lessons learned she brings the ADCO mindset to site to cultivate and nurture an environment of listening and learning from each other.

Mairead speaks about the construction project being a small part of the pharmaceutical companies’ production cycles. Recognising the clients’ priorities and learning from their feedback has allowed her to deliver projects with a sage flexibility where cooperation is key.

Passionate about her work, Mairead is vocal about supporting other women to enter the construction environment in every facet of the industry. We love hearing her call to action “Go on you, get stuck in!”. There can be a perception and stereotype from some people that women are “soft and fragile”. Mairead is an advocate for allowing yourself to be feminine and “girly” if that’s who you are. It doesn’t hinder your work or stop you from getting things done. Just like the pharmaceutical industry produces millions of drugs tailored to millions of conditions, there are a million decisions made while delivering a project. There is however only one “you” so be yourself.
