ADCO’s 2022 in a Nutshell

2022 saw the world’s population reach 8 billion people, Twitter taken over by Elon Musk, cake thrown at the Mona Lisa and a new bank holiday announced in Ireland. As we bid adieu to the year of ups and downs, Team ADCO takes a look back at some of our own most impactful moments.

Strength Through Diversity

One of the things we are most proud of was our ability to grow our team, adding 10 new members, throughout 2022. We welcomed talent from all over the world, from Brazil to Portugal, from Mexico to the far-flung reaches of Meath!

Having a wider range of voices and perspectives has made us stronger. By actively recruiting people from contrasting cultures with unique perspectives and ideas, we have established a working environment where everyone is empowered to share different techniques, methodologies and suggestions for improvement.

No one person can have all the answers. Through a culture of humility and continuous learning, we have created a shared environment where we all succeed by listening and learning from each other’s different lived experiences and backgrounds. Working together, we create something greater than ourselves as individuals.

Building an inclusive culture from within, where employees are able to be their true selves allowed a variety of skills, qualifications, cultures, and values to come together as one. ADCO is a place where everyone can thrive as individuals and still feel a part of something bigger.

Standout Year for Safety

In December we were honoured to be recognised as the winners of the Excellence in Health and Safety category at the Irish Construction Industry Awards for our ‘Mind Your Mental Health’ initiative.

This win was an evolution of our partnership with the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, who provide emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. They receive no public funding and rely on the generosity of those within the industry to help them continue their vital work.

It’s quite common in the construction industry for people to struggle with mental health. Hours are long, days are stressful, and pressure is constant. Historically, our industry has not had a culture of opening up about mental or emotional challenges. In ADCO, we feel an unwavering responsibility to each other, our clients, our subcontractors, our families and our friends to make sure we all return home safe every day. Our intention is to remove any potential barriers to staff seeking help and to work towards overcoming any stigma which may be preventing people from accessing the support they need.

During CIF Construction Safety Week 2022 we were thrilled to support the all-Ireland tour of Lighthouse’s outstanding “Help Inside the Hard Hat” campaign. The touring team consisted of trained mental health first aiders with backgrounds in construction, who met and spoke with as many construction workers as possible, to offer advice and to have some craic, as well as handing out prizes and freebees.

Safety Week is one of our calendar highlights every year because it allows us to celebrate the fact that safety is the bond that unites us all. It is our connection to something bigger than ourselves, a shared vision of a stronger, safer industry built in a supportive environment.

Project Highlights – From Pharma to Fit-Out

Our skilled teams completed many outstanding projects throughout Ireland during the year. From a new three-story building totalling 6400sqm for MSD in Ballydine to a Fire Water Storage project for Amgen in Pottery Road and a challenging city centre fit-out at Harcourt in Dublin. From car parks to upgrades, from freezers to enabling works it was an unforgettable year filled with innovations, challenges, and most importantly, successful projects for happy clients!

Community Spirit

We are passionate about giving back to the local communities where we live and work. Once again, 2022 saw us prioritise spending time and money to sustainably contribute to the charities and organisations which work so tirelessly to make a real difference in people’s lives.

This year it was our privilege to support Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, Make-A-Wish Ireland and the Ronald McDonald House Ireland.

The Future

With the new year comes optimism and the chance for new beginnings. We wish our staff, our clients, our supply chain and our community wonderful days ahead filled with curiosity, growth, prosperity, peace and joy!

We’d like to especially warmly welcome the “terrific ten” who joined our team during 2022 and here’s to an exceptional year together in 2023! We’re excited to support each other through fresh beginnings as we make new memories together!
